Work begins on new Eaglescliffe home of the Great North Air Ambulance
Work has started on a new facility that will house the Great North Air Ambulance Service – but the charity isn’t leaving Durham Tees Valley Airport just yet.
The GNAAS will be moving to a new base at Urlay Nook in Eaglescliffe, a step which is said to result in rent savings alone of £120,000 a year.
All helicopters, the clinical team and charity staff will be relocated to the site, which used to house the former Elementis works, when the project is completed.
Plans for the project emerged in 2016, with planning permission granted last year. The site has been unoccupied since Elementis stopped work there in 2009.
