Great North Air Ambulance, new headquarters, CPNE

Great North Air Ambulance (GNAA) Ready for take-off…

The Great North Air Ambulance (GNAA) announced their plans for a new Headquarters in the region last years and planning has now been granted by Stockton Borough Council, subject to conditions. Connect Property NE and Niven Architects are advising on the project which is to be located at Urlay Nook, close to Durham Tees Valley Airport, on the former site of the Elementis Chromium works.

The original office building is to be redesigned by Niven and will provide the GNAA, for the first time, with a permanent base for their operational and support staff including  fundraising, lottery and admin teams. The building will also house a Medical Centre of Excellence which will enable the GNAA to build upon the outstanding research it has already completed on clinical innovations.

A new hangar suitable for housing the charity’s highly visible green and white helicopters, responsible for saving many people’s lives, will be located adjacent to the existing office building.

GNAA Chief Executive, Grahame Pickering MBE said;” I cannot stress enough how vital this is for the future of the charity and for the future of pre-hospital care in the region.”

Andrew Wilkinson, Director CPNE commented “We are delighted to be advising GNAA on their relocation plans and their existing office space in Darlington.  These projects take many months to come to fruition and it is proving to be an interesting and complex negotiation on the buildings particularly with flight capability alongside the former Elementis offices.”
